diy fireplace mantel

[For complete step-by-step instructions on how to build a fireplace mantel like Jason’s, see my FIREPLACE MANTEL-102 series.]

Ken;

I am a longtime reader of your blog. I have installed your three piece crown design in our Kitchen and used other various tips from your site. This past month I built a mantel that was severely needed. Thanks for all the info you share on your site. It makes remarkable things possible for even just “slightly handy” guys like myself.

I’ve included some pics in case you are curious to see my results. Credits to my wife for the festive holiday decorations.

Keep up the good work.

Sincerely;

Jason Kahler

Many new homes are sold with only a stone hearth and slip but no surround. And that’s a good thing because then you get to build yourself a mantel that’s a lot nicer than what a builder would have provided.

A few sheets of MDF and some moldings, and before you know it, you’ve got what’s starting to look like a really grand fireplace mantel.

Your finished project is only as good as your prep work for painting. Jason’s doing it right.

Jason,

I’m so inspired by how nicely this came out, that I’m inclined to build a fireplace mantel that includes an electric insert like yours.

Thank you so much for sending in your work!

Cheers,

Ken

P.S. It’s Christmas in June! If you’re wondering why I’m posting a fireplace mantle decorated for Christmas in June, it’s because I’m a very bad person. Jason sent me these great pictures last year, but I’m only now getting around to posting them.

To help fix my Reader Molding backlog problem, I’ve started encouraging my readers to post their projects directly on The Joy of Moldings Facebook page. That way you don’t have to wait around for me to get the job done.

But more importantly, posting to Facebook allows for more discussion around your project, which is something I enjoy an awful lot.
